The Winter Fuel Payment will become means tested this Autumn. Pensioners on Pension Credit during the qualifying week 16th to 22nd September are one of the groups that will continue to receive the Payment. Other means tested benefits will also ensure entitlement. Tax credits, IS, JSA(IB), ESA(IR).

While around 1.4 million pensioners are already receiving Pension Credit, there are up to an estimated 880,000 households eligible for the support who are yet to claim. Pension Credit can be backdated for 3 months and claimed over the telephone without the need for a signed form.  This makes the final deadline for qualifying 21 DECEMBER 2024.
